John Elwyn Bugge peacefully passed away at his home in Incline Village, NV, into God's home, July 12, 2015. He was comforted by his sons and their wives, Jon and Tina Bugge, Tim and Judy Bugge, daughter, Alexandra Bugge and sister, Mary Jane and husband Garry Wunderwald. In 1956, he graduated from Stanford University majoring in Geology. During his college years, John participated in track & field earning many awards in the sport of Javelin throw. As an ROTC Cadet, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was a navigator assigned to the 58th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, flying high altitude missions some of which took him into Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on August 17, 1972, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years. John loved Nevada and his Incline Village home. His library contained many books and historical manuscripts covering all things Nevada. He collected and restored 22 navigation Sextants. He was a Mt. Rose ski instructor for many years, volunteered at the Thunderbird Lodge, was an avid mountain biker and loved hiking the trails with his faithful Sheltie, Pepper.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Marie, in 2002. His family including his sons, daughter, sister, step-son Robert Riordan, two grandsons, a niece, a nephew and cousins will miss his intellect, calmness, kind demeanor and wide ranging conversation. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Claribel (Bel) Young, Professional Caregiver, Incline Village, NV., for being such a wonderful caregiver and companion to John. He took you into his heart and we are so thankful for all you gave to him.
